A quick look at what’s working, what’s not, and what I’m focusing on this month.
📊 April 2026 Snapshot

- Handicap Update: 11.0 (⬆ 0.1 from last month)
- GIR: 19%… yeah, pretty low!
- Driving Accuracy (Driver, 3W):
- 34% left
- 31% fairway,
- 34% right.
- Approach Accuracy (54°, 50°, PW):
- 51% green
- 28% short, 5% long
- 13% left, 3% right
👍 What’s Working
- Focused on right arm tucking in and firm wrists on take away. Aim to reduce hooks.
- Driving and long irons more consistent. Less hooks, better distance. It’s working!
👎 What’s Not
Through March, there’s a theme. I’m rusty. This is captured more in the article here. In summary:
- Putting: Distance control and short putts are off.
- Decision-making: Decision making is costing me shots – mistakes are compounding.
- Irons distance control: I’m still adjusting to carry distance changes coming from winter to spring, and lack of playing.
🎯 Focus This Month
- Putting 3–6ft. Emphasised by the fact I missed three putts inside 4ft on my last round. Would have been a 9-hole best 35 (+1). I hit +4, 38 (pictured in Figure 1).
- Course management. I need to think more. Yardage and hazards. Be conservative after poor tee shots.
- Pitching, 30 to 125 yards. This was a strength last year. It has gone off at the start of this season. I’ll focus practice sessions on 50 to 125 yards.
🤔 What I Wish I Could Measure
I have a lot of data at my disposal. I’ve demonstrated some of this in a recent article here. This month I’m going to think about what to record with minimal effort/maximum gain. Current thoughts:
- 3 putts
- Poor decisions and why, using AI to help summarise analysis with time; perfect job for a Large Language Model like ChatGPT.
🔚 Final thoughts
Early season rust is real. Focus on Putts and pitching this month. Let’s see how things go…
